Pearson Institute of Higher Education

Pearson Institute of Higher Education("PI") formerly Midrand Gradaute Institute was founded in 1989 and was one of the first private, university level, degree-conferring institutions in southern Africa. It quickly developed a reputation for offering accredited and career-focused qualifications that prepared graduates for a highly competitive job market. From its early beginnings, it offered relevant and industry-aligned degrees with an emphasis on interactive, practical and experiential teaching and learning methods.

It offers 16 undergraduate degrees, lecture-based support for UNISA's Bachelor of Laws degree, an advanced teaching diploma, three honours degrees and one masters degree within six faculties. Besides offering its own degrees, PI has a long history of providing top quality tuition geared towards the qualifications of other institutions.

Because PI prepares students for the real world of work, being proficient in the use of technology is another of their key objectives. For this reason, PI rovides their students with a Tablet PC which enhances the overall learning experience, students are able to read applicable digital content, conduct research and communicate with lecturers and peers.

Pearson Institute of Higher Education is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (No. 2001/HE07/008) and accredited by the South African Council on Higher Education (CHE). This accreditation ensures that all programmes and academic services are of the highest standard and that students have comprehensive employment opportunities available to them upon completion of their studies.

In 2013, Pearson became the sole owner of Pearson Institute of Higher Education formerly MGI. This makes them one of the largest higher education providers in South Africa. By securing this partnership, Pearson’s strong brand, educational resources and global reach will help leverage PI strengths and transform the higher education landscape in southern Africa. Pearson seeks to serve the higher education market by providing educational resources such as teaching and learning materials, assessment services and a range of educational solutions and tools.
