One of the most important roles that health practitioners play – among numerous other important roles – is the handling and administration of all drug schedules to patients under their care, and the monitoring of their patients’ response to these drugs. This role is critical in making sure that patients under their care bene t optimally from the drug therapy they receive.
In order to ensure that practitioners are fully competent to carry out the vital functions of drug handling, administration and evaluation, the content of this fourth edition of Pharmacology for Health Sciences has been updated to include the most recent developments in drug therapy. For example, the chapter on administration of drugs to patients has had additional content added so that this vital function of health workers is comprehensively spelled out. Similarly, the section on therapeutic uses of alpha agonists in Chapter 5 has been expanded to include subsections on cardiac arrest, hypotension and shock.
The design of the fourth edition of Pharmacology for Health Sciences has also been updated to incorporate recent innovations.
Some of these innovations in layout and in digital technology include:
• additional supportive illustrations
• key information boxes that summarise critical information
• patient education regarding the use of some drugs
• pop-up glossary terms that provide immediate access to the meaning of key terms
• QR codes that provide access to additional online information.
